You might want to connect your dreambox to your PC for a number of reasons; stream MP3s or movies from your PC to the dreambox, record from the dreambox to a shared folder on your PC, to update the image, services or bouquets, etc.

Configuring your PC

One side of the crossover cable needs to be connected to your PC, obviously. Most PCs only have one ethernet connection and it’s usually used for the internet connection. It’s advisable to buy a second network card and keep it solely for the use of the dreambox, these are about £5 from your local computer shop. But this guide will show you how to connect it to you existing ethernet connection.

I’m using Windows XP Pro but the steps may be different for other operating systems.

Go to the Control Panel then Network Connections. Find the ethernet connection that you would use for your internet. Right click it and select Properties. Scroll down to ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)’ and select Properties. If you do use this connection for your internet then it should have the ‘Obtain an ip address automatically’ selected. Change the settings so that it looks like this…

Select OK and reboot your PC. Remember at this point you will not have any internet access so make sure you have a copy of all the guides and tools that you need. Or connect your modem via USB.

Configuring your Dreambox

I will use an enigma image in this example, neutrino can also be used and the same values should be used although the menus may look different and be in a different place.

Go to Menu > Setup > Expert Setup > Communication Setup

Change the settings to look like this…

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

Select Save and exit from the other menus.

Connecting to the Dreambox

To connect to the dreambox we are going to use an FTP Client. There are many programs available for this, FlashFXP, CuteFTP, Filezilla and SmartFTP are some examples. For this guide we are going to use FlashFXP.

Server or URL: 192.168.1.10

Username: root

Password: dreambox

Port: 21

Click Connect.

You should now see the file system of the dreambox on the left, i.e.
/bin, /dev, /etc, /hdd, /sbin, /var, etc etc.

Good luck

How Do I Use Dreamup?

If, for any reason, your box won't boot, you will have to use Dreamup to flash an image instead of Flash Wizard Pro or any other method. You won't be able to connect via ethernet so no ip address is required. It may be that the process simply hung up during flashing or you accidentally pulled the plug half way through (yes it did happen to me). This will get you back on track.

Required

* Null Modem Cable (this is NOT the same as a serial or rs232 cable, although it looks the same)
* Image File (.img)
* DreamUp Program

Instructions

* Disconnect all cables from your dreambox, including the power
* Connect the null modem cable to the dreambox and to your PC
* Load Dreamup.exe
* Click Connect and you will see a message like this

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

* Connect the power and the bootloader should be copied to the box
* The message should now say 'Box attached and Ready'
* Click Flash on the right hand side and select the image to be flashed

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

* Click Yes or Ya (depending on the version)

Note: If you're flashing a backup image, select NO.

* The image should then be uploaded to the box
* There will be a countdown timer at the bottom of the program

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

* After the image is uploaded, it will be flashed to memory
* The finished process should look like this:

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

* Click OK and close down Dreamup
* Power off the dreambox for 30 seconds then power up
* If any errors appear, check all cables are connected properly and repeat the process but do not use the PC while it's running

For this example, we will use the Adult bouquet to lock and hide.

* Select Setup menu then Parental Lock
* Select Parental Lock button and change pin to what you want and re-enter
* Select Save
* Select Service Organising
* Select Lock/Unlock Services
* Enter pin code
* Select Adult bouquet then select NO to lock it

You should have a padlock icon next to the bouquet now. You will be prompted to enter the pin when selecting this bouquet.

If you now want to hide the bouquet from the list...

Setup > Parental Lock > Hide Locked Bouquets > Save

How Do I Lock A Single Channels On An Enigma Image?

* Select Setup menu then Parental Lock
* Select Parental Lock button and change pin to what you want and re-enter
* Select Save
* Exit menus
* Press OK then RED (All Services)
* Scroll to channel you want to lock
* Press MENU
* Select Lock

Now even if the box is rebooted that channel will always be locked.

If the box is rebooted on a locked channel, it will ask for the unlock code on bootup.

How Do I Unlock A Single Channels On An Enigma Image?

* Press OK then RED (All Services)
* Scroll to channel you want to unlock

How to create your own startup, shutdown, radio, scan and mp3 logos
The dimension of these pictures must be 720×576 pixels in PAL format.

Path where the boot image is stored is /root/platform/kernel and is called bild.
Path where the other pictures are stored is

/var/tuxbox/config/enigma/pictures.
The program we will use to create the pictures is called

TMPGEnc ([Only Registered Users Can See Links])

Download TMPGEnc from official site
Unzip the file to your chosen destination.
Double click the ‘TPMGEnc.exe MPEG Encoder’ file and click ‘OK’ on the small pop up window. Then click ‘Cancel’ on the ‘Project Wizard (1/5)’ window that appears.
Next screen, bottom right…’Stream type’, check the box ‘ES (Video only)’.
Next, bottom left…’Video source:’ click on ‘Browse’ and select the background/photo that you want as your new logo.
Next, bottom left… ‘Output file name:’ click on browse and choose the path for your finished ‘new’ boot background/photo and edit the name to ‘bild’ (minus the ‘….’ and in lower case) ie: the line that apperars in the ‘Output file name:’ should read similar to C:\Documents and Settings\Whatever\My Documents\bild ( the actual name of the photo does NOT appear).
Next, bottom right…click on ‘Setting’ and check that the value settings are:

…..’Stream type:’ = MPEG-1 Video
…..’Size’ = 720 x576 pixels
…..’Aspect ratio:’ = 1:1 (VGA)
…..’Frame rate:’ = 25 fps
…..’Rate control mode:’ = Constant bitrate (CBR)
…..’Bitrate:’ = 12000
…..’Motion search precision:’ = Normal

When checked, click ‘OK’ to exit the screen.

Top left click ‘Start’, if all is goes well, the ‘100%’ bar appears and your completed ‘bild’ file is in your chosen ‘Output…’ location.

If You want to change the boot picture before compressing the image (after the ‘make rebuild-flash’ command ) , just copy it into

/tuxbox-cvs/root/cdkflash/boot/root/platform/kernel
before executing the ‘make flash-compress’ command.

Good Luck

How to Setup Bouquets for Gemini and Enigma Images

This tutorial assumes that you have successfully flashed either a Gemini or Enigma image to your Dreambox and have successfully performed a scan or have a valid services file for your area.
When you press the OK button on your remote, you bring up the bouquets for the image.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

It’s not practical to have to scroll through all the channels to find the one you want, so this will help you set the channels into categories which are easier to navigate.

First of all, you need to select the Menu button on the remote.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

Select the Setup option.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

Select Create new bouquet.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

Select TV.

Enter the name of the bouquet you want to create.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

Press the Yellow button once to enable Capital Letter mode and press it again to disable.
Select OK to save.

Keep creating a new bouquet until you have all the categories you want.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

If you want to move a specific bouquet to a different place on the list, you can use the Edit bouquets menu within the Service Organising screen.
Select Bouquets (TV).
Select the bouquet you want to move.
Press the GREEN button to ‘mark’ the bouquet.
Move it up or down using the arrow buttons then select OK when it’s in the correct place.

Now you have your bouquets created, you need to fill them with channels.
Press OK and the main bouquet screen will come up.
Select RED for All Services.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

The channels with epg in brackets next to them are the channels that actually work. Channels without epg will show nothing.
Highlight the channels one by one, i.e. ABC1.
Press the Menu button on the remote.

[Only Registered Users Can See Links]

Select add to a specific bouquet.
Select the bouquet that you want to put the channel in.
For example,
Sky Sports 1 > Sports
Sky Movies 4 > Movies
CBeebies > Kids
You will be returned to the All Services screen.
Select the next channel and do the same.
Do this until there are no channels left.

Once you have all the channels in the correct bouquet, you might want to re-arrange them within the bouquet.
Select Edit bouquets from within Service Organising.
Select Bouquets (TV) then the bouquet, i.e. Sport.
Highlight the channel you want to move then press the GREEN button to ‘mark’ the channel.
Use the up and down arrow buttons to move it up and down the list to the position you want.
Select OK to confirm the move.
Now when you press OK to select the bouquets, instead of pressing RED to see the All Services page, press BLUE to view the Bouquets page.
This should continue to come up instead of the All Services page.
I hope this guide has helped you in your quest for perfect bouquets.

Good luck
